When booking a DJ for your event, it’s only natural that you have a few questions or concerns. Here are the most commonly asked questions about our DJ hire service answered.
Can the DJ play 80’s (or whatever the party’s theme is) music?
All our DJs have a wide variety of music (generally in excess of 15,000 songs). Should your theme be very specific, and you give us enough time to prepare, we can play your theme music all night long.
I would like to meet with the DJ booked for my function before the time, is that possible?
Yes, definitely. In fact, such meetings are encouraged as the most successful functions are the ones where the DJ met with the client before the time to make sure he/she understood their specific requirements. If the client feels uncomfortable with the specific DJ we can always recommend an alternative DJ, as we have multiple DJs available, all of whom have different strengths, qualities and areas of specialization that make them excellent at what they do.
What equipment do you use, and what backup do you take should these fail?
For a standard function we use two powered speakers, one mixer and one cordless microphone. All this equipment is off production standard (JBL, Shure, Soundcraft, etc) and is regularly serviced and tested every time before it is despatched to a function. In terms of backup, one of our powered speakers on its own is sufficient to entertain up to 100 people. The speakers also have mixers in the back (should the mixer fail). We also always have a line microphone handy in case the cordless microphone fails.
What music do you play? Will you play what I ask?
As professional DJs it is our job to entertain your guests. As the client it is your prerogative to provide limits of which music we may and may not play. It is usually best to keep the limits to a minimum, as you would want to keep as many guests as possible happy (within reason of course). Requests are always welcome, keeping in mind that it is impossible to have all songs of all genres. To give you an idea, the Nokia Music Store claims to have over 5 million songs, and some of our DJs have songs in their collections that are not available at the Nokia Music Store and vice versa. So, although we endeavour to cater for every request, it is not always possible, and we might suggest alternatives.
What does my quotation include?
Your quotation include (unless it states otherwise) the services of a professional DJ, a variety of music, production-grade sound equipment (sufficient for the amount of guests indicated in your quotation request), and basic dance floor lighting (if your function requires). A pre-function meeting is included in the quotation should you require one.
Are you registered with SADJA and/or SAMRO?
Yes, we are registered with both SAMRO and SADJA. Supporting documentation can be provided upon request.
My venue already has a sound system, can you use this and can I get a discount when you use this?
Using a venue’s equipment would make our job much easier, that’s true. But there are several pitfalls, and that is why we usually prefer to use our own equipment.
How often, if ever, do the venue test and service their equipment? If the equipment fails halfway through the night, who will you be looking at for backup?
Is their equipment designed for being a PA system (i.e. just speeches), or loud music? We would not want to be held accountable for blowing a venue’s speakers when playing your favourite song at maximum levels.
Chances are your venue only has speakers and a microphone that we can use, which means we still have to provide our own source (i.e. laptops, CD players and mixers), which means we are still supplying half the equipment anyway.
This said, there are certain venues that do have quality, well-maintained equipment which we are willing to make use of. There, we will assess your request as required.
